The FHWA’s Office of Safety and the Office of Safety Research and Development will be conducting the first of three Model Inventory of Roadway Elements (MIRE) vetting sessions.
MIRE Vetting Session
There will be three MIRE vetting sessions to collect input on potential changes to enhance the value of MIRE. The first webinar will be on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:30 PM EDT. The link to register for the session is:

MIRE Version 1.0 Background
The MIRE is a guideline of recommended roadway and traffic data elements to develop a more robust roadway and traffic data inventory for roadway analyses and other purposes. The MIRE Version 1.0 was initially released in 2010 and is a listing of 202 roadway data elements. The information in MIRE is grouped into categories of roadway segment, roadway junction and interchange/ramp descriptors that provide a name, definition, and attributes used to describe each data element, among other information. A copy of MIRE Version 1.0 is available at:
http://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/tools/data_tools/mirereport/mirereport.pdf
Since MIRE Version 1.0 was released there have been advances in data collection, analysis techniques and the passage of the MAP-21 transportation legislation has certain data requirements. Because of these and other factors, FHWA will be reassessing how MIRE Version 1.0 is meeting the needs of roadway data users and determine if changes or modifications to MIRE would enhance its usefulness.
