Watch this FREE 60-minute webinar from the California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW) on New Opportunities for Advance Mitigation: Connectivity Advance Mitigation. Improving habitat connectivity is critical to conserving California’s biodiversity and ecosystem resiliency since thousands of miles of infrastructure impede the movements of wildlife in California.
Webinar topics included:
• Basics of the Wildlife CAM Subprogram, including Fish & Game Code
• Guidelines & crediting process of the Wildlife CAM Subprogram
• Novel aspects of CAM such as Long-Term Durability Agreements
• Process for getting started on a CAM Project
CDFW’s Connectivity Advance Mitigation (CAM) team released the Wildlife Connectivity Advance Mitigation Guidelines in September 2024, which implements Senate Bill 790 of 2021. These innovative guidelines create a system to evaluate wildlife connectivity actions for compensatory mitigation credits, which can be sold to offset project impact. In addition, they outline a stakeholder engagement pilot period and invite potential sponsors of CAM projects to collaborate with CDFW. Because the approach to wildlife connectivity advance mitigation is new, some aspects of the crediting are still in development, and therefore, CDFW plans to work very closely with all potential project sponsors during the pilot period.
