Caltrans has released the fiscal year 2026-27 Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant Application Guide and Call for Applications. A total of $34.5 million is available for transportation planning projects statewide.
The Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant Program supports Caltrans’ mission to improve lives and communities by funding projects that promote sustainable, safe, and accessible transportation across California.
This Grant Program Includes:
- Sustainable Communities Grants – Encourage local/regional planning that supports State goals, implement Regional Transportation Plan Sustainable Communities Strategies (where applicable), and ultimately help achieve the State’s Greenhouse Gas reduction targets of 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 and 80% below by 2050. Sustainable Communities grant applications may request a maximum of $700,000 and have an 11.47% local match requirement (Native American Tribal Governments are not required to include a local match).
- Strategic Partnerships Grants – Identify and address statewide, interregional, or regional transportation deficiencies on the State Highway System in partnership with Caltrans. A sub-category of this grant funds transit-focused planning projects that address multimodal transportation deficiencies. Strategic Partnerships grant applications may request a maximum of $500,000 and have a 20% local match requirement.
