The UC Berkeley Safe Transportation Research & Education Center (SafeTREC) has launched the California Active Transportation Data Portal (CAT Data Portal), an online tool to collect, store, and visualize bicyclist, pedestrian, wheelchair, and other micromobility device volume counts for infrastructure and planning projects across California.
This portal supports the data collection and reporting needs of the Active Transportation Program (ATP) and provides useful data processing capabilities like automated quality checks and an estimate of annual average daily traffic for active travel modes.
Goals of the Data Portal:
• Provide a standardized methodology for ATP pre/post-counts
• Store data for agencies and Tribes to use in the development of seasonal adjustment factors for short-duration counts, and other modal analysis
• Provide an open data set for researchers interested in analyzing trends in bicycle and pedestrian trips and mode shifts
• Support active transportation planning by providing a “one-stop-shop” of data commonly used in active transportation planning
