Mini Roundabouts & USDOT’s Small Business Innovation & Research (SBIR) Program

Thursday, March 16, 2023 | 11:00 am –12:30 pm PT

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will host an informative Innovation Exchange webinar on mini roundabouts with representatives from FHWA’s Turner Fairbank Highway Research Center, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), and Washtenaw County (MI) Road Commission, who will discuss their experience with mini roundabout installations. FHWA will also present information about the SBIR Program, including current research funding opportunities.

Mini roundabouts can provide innovative, cost-effective, and sometimes even temporary solutions to recurring and non-recurring (event traffic) congestion on both urban and rural roads. A low-cost mini roundabout design using recycled materials resulted from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) Program. This innovative technology has led to the installation of similar mini roundabouts by transportation agencies across the country.

  1. Hi Karen,

I was unable to join the webinar on mini roundabouts today, March 16th, because the zoom meeting had reached capacity of 500. I was very disappointed, as I am a big advocate of mini roundabouts. I was wondering if this webinar will be available in your future newsletters? I really wanted to learn more about this topic.

    Thanks,
