Division of Research, Innovation, and System Information (DRISI) Presents:
Highway Damage Recovery Using GIS, LiDAR and UAS

September 13, 2023
11:00 am – 12:00 pm PT

This presentation will show how the North Region of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in conjunction with Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for state highway damage recovery efforts. This is one of many ways that Caltrans uses GIS applications to complete its mission critical work and achieve the goal of innovation.

In addition, the presentation will describe the years of work that State DOT’s engage in after major disaster events including pavement rehabilitation, hazard tree removal and landslides.

Presenter: Aaron Ott is a Professionally Licensed Land Surveyor and Chief, of the Office of Data Services and Technology in DRISI. His office is responsible for Enterprise GIS, Linear Referencing System (LRS), and Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS). He has 24 years of experience in project delivery working and supervising Field Surveys, Survey Data Processing and GIS.
