Participate in Roadway Data Improvement Program Workshop

Caltrans is inviting up to 15 local agencies, including MPO’s and RTPA’s, to a Local Technical Transfer Session on the Roadway Data Improvement Program (RDIP) to be held in Sacramento on July 23 – 24, 2018.   To get the best assessment for California, we are looking for individuals within each agency that work with their roadway data systems.

The RDIP is designed to help transportation agencies improve the quality of their roadway data to better support safety and other transportation improvement initiatives. The RDIP, a component of FHWA’s Roadway Safety Data Program (RSDP), focuses on the processes and practices used by agencies for collecting, managing, and utilizing their roadway data.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the roadway data practices and processes.  The topics that will be covered include:

  • Roadway Data Collection Process – who, what, where, when, and how.
  • Data Management Policies – roles and responsibilities.
  • Data Sharing and Integration – among databases and between jurisdictions; with a focus on coordination with the State.
  • Data Analysis Tools and Uses – network screening, diagnosis, countermeasures selection, and evaluation.
  • Data Quality Performance Measures – quality practices currently in place. Special focus on the NHTSA “6-pack” of performance measures:

– Timeliness
– Accuracy
– Completeness
– Consistency/Uniformity
– Integration
– Accessibility

  • Additional issues the agencies would like to discuss.

An RDIP employs a technical assistance team (TAT) to provide an independent review of practices, policies, and procedures. The result of this review is a report that identifies current State practices dealing with critical issues and makes recommendations to help States improve their roadway and traffic data.

If you work with roadway data systems within your agency and are interested in participating in this workshop, please register here.  You will be contacted with further details. Space is limited so all who register may not be able to participate.
