DRISI Webinar: Pilot Testing of Work Zone Intrusion Alarms

Thursday, September 29, 2022
10:00 am – 11:00 am PT

Safety is a top concern for highway maintenance crews working alongside fast-moving traffic. Work Zone Intrusion Alarm (WZIA) systems are designed to increase worker safety by detecting when a vehicle has breached the work zone and alerting crews. With several systems available on the market, researchers will test the effectiveness of several options under real-world conditions.

Discussion & Insights
Researchers plan to pilot test selected WZIA systems in Caltrans work zones. WZIA systems will be evaluated for effectiveness, benefits and shortcomings in real-world conditions. The goal is to see if any of the selected WZIA systems should be considered for implementation in Caltrans to protect highway workers. Presentation details in the Sept-29-2022-Research-Connection-Flier below. In addition, read more about WZIA in the WZIA Task3875 and WZIA ca19-3038 pdfs below.

Presenter: Dr Ghazan Khan, Associate Professor & Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering, California State University Sacramento. Dr. Khan has over 18 years of research, academic, and practical experience working in the broader field of Transportation Engineering.
